About Salamanca Market
Discover Tasmania’s top attraction – Salamanca Market – every Saturday from 8:30 am to 3 pm, rain or shine. Stretched the full length of Hobart’s historic Salamanca Place, from the silos end to the top of Davey Street, the market boasts a vast array of locally crafted products and a chance to meet their makers, artisans, designers, and producers. Don’t miss out on this ultimate shopping experience!
Salamanca Market is taking big steps towards sustainability and eco-friendliness despite its high tourism volume. The market’s waste output amounts to one tonne every Saturday, thanks to its million annual visitors. In response, the market has launched an organics waste stream, which captures over 24 tonnes of compost each year – half of the weekly total. With compostable waste bins, the market is now collecting food scraps, coffee cups, cutlery, straws and hot food takeaway containers, all adorned with green lids and signage.
